You would also act as a Communication and Regulation Partner as he uses his method of communication.
This is a great opportunity to learn a new skill and also make a huge impact in this young man's life! He is a recent high school graduate who has apraxia (motor planning challenges).
He uses an alternative method of pointing to letters on an alphabet board or keyboard as his form of communication.
A key part of the job will be learning to support him in using his method of communication effectively.
You will receive significant on-going training from the family, occupational therapists and other alternative communication practitioners.
Requirements ? A love for young adults and an open, optimistic and energetic yet patient approach to life.
? A willingness to presume competence in someone who is developing and learning to communicate in very different ways.
? Self-starter, willing to take initiative, be prompt and stay on task ? Able to organize a schedule to maximize this young man's time so that he can reach his educational, physical, social and emotional goals.
Along with giving attention to detail.

5 year minimum commitment ? Assist with school during the week and community activities and exercise on the weekends (will discuss schedule) ? Ability to assist with daily living skills and chores ? Comprehends subjects including literature, science, math (proficiency not required but enough understanding and interest to assist is needed) Intangible Benefits ?
